Research Leader Sony CSL – Paris
Remi van Trijp
Bio
Remi van Trijp is a pioneer in the language sciences, driven by the question of how humans create meaning and use language to share it with one another. After studying literature and computational linguistics at the University of Antwerp (Belgium), van Trijp became dissatisfied with traditional linguistic theories. His unconventional views led him to the Sony Computer Science Laboratories in 2005, where he found a unique environment where “crazy” ideas could be explored without a clear path to success – or even the guarantee of a path at all. In Paris, van Trijp has worked on agent-based models to explore language as a living, open system through which humans negotiate their understanding of the world.
He is one of the chief architects of innovate language technologies such as Fluid Construction Grammar, and has participated in numerous international research projects such as ECAgents, ALEAR, ESSENCE, MUHAI and VALAWAI. With dozens of published articles, his work continues to challenge how we think about language, meaning, and the human condition.
