Having a keen personal interest in modern architecture and urban planning, this project at Sony CSL, consisting in helping micro-farms located in peri-urban areas, attracted me immediately. With the looming challenges of climate crises and population grow, I strongly believe there is an urgent need for today’s communities to rethink their dependencies to global productivity lines. Providing urban farmers with AI-aided tools to do repetitive tasks could potentially allow them to focus on the quality of their food products only, while still providing enough quantities to the city. My main project consists in applying novel findings of deep reinforcement learning to the positioning of the robot for better crop monitoring. This involves joint research with academic partners, lots of coding but also field trips to farms!
