Sony CSL algorithms power a sound installation by Marc Vilanova

news

The artist and musician Marc Vilanova used a music generation algorithm created in our lab for his last work Aresta, a sculptural sound installation where an ensemble of saxophones is turned into a self-functioning entity by making the instruments autonomous.

The focus of this installation is on the relationship between human agents and Artificial Intelligence in the creative and performative processes. In fact, Aresta exists at times with a musician and at times without. This alternating absence and presence of the performer who interacts with the sculptural sound installation lead to reflect on the need for a human body on stage, as well as on the potential obsolescence of the human performer.
